The Nude Lipstick Edit

The Nude Lipstick Edit | Cate Renée

My love affair with nude lipstick started many moons ago. From my early teen years I would go into the drugstore and browse through the latest lipstick launches in search for the perfect shade. Everything from baby pinks to peachy nudes, I knew having the perfect lipstick was not only essential but necessary to have with you at all times. Today, if you asked any of my friends or family they'd quite happily tell you how many nude lipsticks I carry around with me and even suggest I hit up a Lipsticks Anonymous meeting. This year one of my New Year's resolutions was to cut back on any unnecessary beauty purchases, lipsticks included, as my collection was becoming a bit excessive and I wasn't fully utilising the products I already had. This is when I rediscovered my lust for nude lippies. I must quickly say that although I set myself the task of not shopping, I've only picked up one new lipstick and its beautiful - I'll get to it in a minute. Anyways I thought I'd share with you my top nude lipstick choices with colours ranging from light pinks to more brown and berry shades, perfect for any skin tone.

I'll start off this edit with my ultimate all-time favourite, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm. This little beauty was ALL THE RAGE last year and the "it" lippy to have which would explain why it took me approximately seven or eight months to find! I even looked for it in the isles of Boots and Superdrug whilst overseas last year. That aside, I now make sure I always have two on-the-go so I will never be without. It's a beautiful peachy nude that dries matte but is still comfortable enough to wear all day long and that's why it has become a handbag staple for me. Another lipstick launch hard to find that I'm obsessed with is the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Lipsticks which I've written a whole post about here. My two favourite shades from the collection are Birthday Cake, a Kim KW-esque pale pink, and Pink Cocoa, a brown toned pink. The finish is lovely and sits somewhere in between a satin sheen and a matte, more so satin. MAC's Amplified Lipstick in Blankety is a true nude colour and what I actually wore to my Year 12 School Formal in 2015. The makeup artist at MAC paired it with a subtle rosy pink lip liner and applied the super creamy lipstick over the top. I've not tried a whole lot in the way of MAC lipsticks but I really liked how smooth and buttery the formula felt on the lips and the colour pay-off. Something like The Body Shop Lip Definer in Pink Clover would look incredible matched with Blankety, but I also like to wear this deep rose coloured lip liner - I know, kinda cheating as I said it was a lipstick edit - just on its own or with a bit of clear lip balm over the top.

As for the other end of this "nude" lipstick edit I thought I would include some more mauve and berry shades. L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in Erotique is something I've worn for quite a few years, and is actually my second tube of it as my first one broke and I knew I couldn't live without this gorgeous matte mauve. If I'm going out on the weekends and feel like adding more depth to my makeup then I usually opt for this colour. I mentioned above that I had only picked up one new lipstick this year and that is the Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Teak Rose. A more berry toned nude which would look heavenly on darker complexions. Super buildable and features a high shine glossy finish, sometimes I like to dab the colour into my lips for a more subtle look. Lastly, the darkest shade but still a nude - it even says nude in the name *winks* - Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in Nude 48. Rimmel lipsticks were where I first started with makeup and beauty as not only are they beyond affordable but for what you get the quality is equally as stunning as the range of shades and formulations on offer.
